Technology has always had a close relationship with education. If you try to investigate further into this relationship you would be philosophically enthused. How come technology which is a mere product of a higher mature education can in the same time be the prime engine in the advancement of education itself ? Humanity's technological progress has impacted and, in several cases, transformed the way people are educated. Starting with the simple abacus that once made learning easier a millennia ago to the highly sophisticated word processing tools and cloud based mobile apps, education has witnessed a tremendous change both in the wasy this education is attained and also delivered.
While the information technology, internet and other developments have positively reshaped the way education is built and delivered, there emerged some devastating side effects alongside these developments. Plagiarism is one negative example among many of what the impact of this digital boom on education has brought about.
We are living in a world that is digitally focused. Internet has made it pretty much easy for everyone to have a free unlimited access to all kinds of information. One single click in a search engine such as Google would suffice to get answers for your bewildereing math equations. Yes Our students have grown up in a 'free culture ' era where the idea that everything online should be free is taken fro granted. They can download music, videos, movies, documents, researches anything they can have access to without even thinking twice about copy rights and intelectual protety infringements. As educators and teachers, we should do all our best to change and redress the situation. Our students are developing bad habits using technology when they can do way better if this same technology is used properly.
