Ralph Lauren closed New York Fashion Week today with a collection built around the idea of an English manor.

Models in tweeds, top hats and tails walked the catwalk to the theme music of hit PBS television series Downton Abbey.

Cloche hats and wide-leg trousers referenced the show's World War I era, as did velvet waistcoats and belted smoking jackets.

Dapper: Beneath the costume-like canes and top hats, the designer's luxurious tailoring prevailed

Golden girl: Though the looks were mostly masculine-inspired, the eveningwear was pure goddess glamour

It was not all fancy dress though. Beyond the canes and bowler hats were more of the luxurious tailored separates that the label is so known and loved for.

Crisp shirts with Peter Pan collars were glimpsed beneath Fair Isle kits, while subtle plaids were teamed with bold animal-print swing coats, giving them a new lease of life.

Sitting front row was Anna Wintour, and of course Mr Lauren's ever-loyal family, who grinned with pride as he came out at the end.

The designer stopped for a kiss from wife Ricky as he walked past her seat in a particulary charming moment.

Today is the final day of New York Fashion Week, and also counts shows from L'Wren Scott and Calvin Klein.

Tomorrow the industry's press and buyers move on to London for the next round of collections.
