Internet Communities And Forums
What is an "Internet forum"?
An Internet forum is a place on the Internet for trading ideas or information. An Internet forum allows many people to chime in about their particular experiences, information, tips, tricks, etc. There are many computer forums out there which, if you have a problem with your computer, you can look up that problem and you might find 5 or 1 people who have been talking about that exact problem and how they are trying to solve it and potential solutions. A forum is an online communication between multiple users, generally through text-style communication – occasionally through voice. Internet forums really began as an off-shoot of the neighborhood bulletin board, where you would go and post your want ads or what you needed or maybe, try and get some business – basic places where communities would come together and find information about various topics. When the Internet came around, it made it much easier for people to find specific forums, specific bulletin board sites. Some of the popular ones, like Craigslist, enable you the ability to find anything you want, sell or buy things, hire people, find a job yourself, find a roommate, etc. It's a place for Internet correspondence and communication. It's a way for multiple users to give their tips, tricks, and information about how they're using something or what they've found in their day-to-day experiences. It's a way for information to be gathered and collected by every basic user about specific topics.
What is an "Internet community"?
An internet community is a group of people who meet or have their communication through the internet. This takes many shapes and forms: this could be a forum, where people are getting together to answer questions on the latest problem they're having with their computer, or what they thought of the last episode of Grey's Anatomy. An internet community springs up out of multiple people having one common purpose. Some of the internet communities that have happened recently include such amazing technological developments as game systems, where hundreds of thousands of people can log on simultaneously to play one game on this multiplayer universe on the internet, where you're interacting as a character in this game with your friends across the street and friends around the world. An internet community breaks down geographical locations. It prevents distance from being an issue when you want to communicate with like-minded people on like-minded topics.
Can I use Internet communities to promote my business?
Absolutely you can use internet communities to promote your business. You can use forums of like-minded people, or most notoriously, social networking sites such as MySpace or Facebook, which allow you to connect with people who like products similar to what you're selling, who use products similar to what you're selling. A lot of record companies and a lot of musicians use MySpace as one of their primary advertising focuses, because you can target people who like the kind of music that you're playing and direct them to your MySpace page, and from there, to your website.
