5 Ways to Program Your Mind For Success
Building Neural Pathways in Your Brain That Allow You To Succeed

Most people severely underestimate the effect your mindset has on what you achieve or fail to achieve in life.
It is common knowledge that building skill sets is an important part of being able to do what you set out to accomplish.
But achieving success requires so much more than cultivating skills.
Natural talent, gifts you seem to be born with, is also an important thing.
But beyond both of these, talents and skills, there is another critical factor called mindset.
Mindset is a collection of habitual ways of seeing self, life and other people that for most people acts like a “blinder” preventing you from seeing the possibilities and opportunities that are always showing up around everyone.
Once you start looking for it, comments about the importance of mindset from wealthy and highly successful people are everywhere. Here’s one 2 minute example.
Mindset makes the key difference between those who succeed in achieving their visions, and those who fail to achieve them.
A success mindset includes beliefs that cultivates self-confidence, self-esteem, and effective decision-making.
If you don’t currently have the mindset and habits of successful people, don’t despair. You can re-create your mindset and build success habits with consistent daily application of the five main success habits.
Encourage Yourself
What you say to other people matters in terms of getting where you want to go, but far more important is what you say to yourself.
Every time you heap blame or criticism on yourself you are setting yourself up to fail.
Yes, it is critical to take responsibility for your outcomes.
But you can do this with a commitment to see where you missed the mark and then in learning how accomplish what you didn’t initially accomplish.
Own your power by speaking to yourself in a way that activates your best self.
Self-doubt paralyzes.
Avoid taking this route.
Focus On What You Want
It can be difficult to stay focused. There are many distractions vying for your attention. Netflix, news shows, podcasts, reality TV, surfing the internet, keeping up with social media…so many non-productive ways to use your most precious commodity: time.
When you intend an outcome, stay laser-focused on the perceptions and choices that will lead to that outcome.
“Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.” — Jack Canfield
Don’t be afraid to aim high. When you work on expanding your mindset and embracing more and more of your authentic self you will realize that human beings have infinite potential.
There is always more of you waiting to be born.
When you allow yourself to go for more than what you have now you may experience some failure as you move toward that outcome.
That’s how it works!
Fail fast!
Use the failure to learn something.
Revise your plan and go for your vision again.
Activate Your Passion and Keep The Fire Burning
Be sure you are focused on something you really want…something that ignites your passion.
It is the desires of the heart that most truly reflect our mission and purpose.
“Passion will move men beyond themselves, beyond their shortcomings, beyond their failures.” — Joseph Campbell
If your heart isn’t in it, then even achieving an outcome that is not heart-centered will not be satisfying.
We are meant to fail on our journey to achieving our highest dreams and visions because we are striving to do things we don’t know how to do.
This is how we learn what we didn’t know we needed to know!
It is the flames of desire burning in our hearts that motivate us to keep going when the failures take their toll.
Chunk It Down
Most worthy endeavors require many small steps in order to fully achieve them.
Keep your eyes on the big picture, but create a plan to get where you want to go one step at a time.
This kind of plan will keep you moving forward when you can’t see all the steps between where you are and where you want to go.
You don’t need to know all the steps. Just take the next step right in front of you.
There are three useful ways to chunk down a big goal.
The first is to chunk it down by time. Break the goal into pieces that can be accomplished in small amounts of time.
The second is to chunk it down by quantity. For example, if you have a book you want to read, and it is presented in chapters commit to reading one chapter per day, or per week. Soon the book will be read.
The third is to chunk it down by action steps. For example, you might have a goal of writing a book. Make a list of all the action steps, and commit to taking one or more steps each day.
The point is, instead of being daunted by looking at the whole project, bite off a piece that can be accomplished, and build momentum by regularly advancing to the completion of the whole project.
“This year I will achieve my most important goal by breaking it down into 365 manageable chunks and completing one chunk per day. — Mariela Fabrega
Take Effective Action
Often there are so many ways to accomplish a thing.
As we have said, making decisions and taking action is the way to learn what works and what doesn’t work.
Failing fast is the best way to figure out what works.
Do your due diligence, but then pick a direction and take action. If you need to, you can course correct later.
Whether you are making a phone call, sending an email, or scheduling a meeting to achieve the next steps, you are always moving toward your goal.
Keeping your word with yourself, doing what you say you are going to do, helps you begin to trust yourself. Step by step you move closer to your goals.
Building success habits is not difficult, but it takes consistency. Habits are built one choice at a time. Knowing this keeps you focused in the present moment where all the power is.
You already have a mindset.
The question for you to explore is, “Does my mindset effectively advance me toward success every day?”
If not, you can use these strategies to upgrade your mindset and begin to access the possibilities and opportunities that are in your vicinity every day!
